I think now that queens dead they should have her stuffed and put on display in Cairo for the next 150 years.
BLAZE REJECTED MY POST WOW LOL
We'll make sure at least 100k people see it for free then.
IGN did a review of Hogwarts Legacy.
It was praise for the game.
Then a little aside about JKR "comments" about trans people and not a single word on the blood libel and other antisemitism in the game.
To sum up the horrible danger she has put trans people in and harm she has caused that community, the murderous people she has platformed, the rhetoric she has spewed, the dog-piling she participated in, and the hate organizations she has given money to as simply comments is disgusting.
It severely downplays the reality of what is going and the harm done to trans community.
Furthermore to not say a single word about the antisemitism that the very plot is hinged upon is absurd. How can you not talk about the racism that makes up the entire fucking story.
@tikkunolamorgtfo here is review that came out for Blood Libel: Video Game version
Thanks! I guess all the posts and videos I saw covering it last Spring coincided with the “official gameplay reveal,” rather than the game’s actual release (I haven’t really paid much attention to video games since my Gameboy DMG-01 stopped working, so I’m probably about 20 years behind the curve).
Anyway, this contains a link to that video I mentioned in my other post if anybody wants to see another detailed breakdown of why it sucks:
Ok, so here's the deal-
Voting for Speaker is normally kind of a formality. The parties pick their guy, everyone votes on party lines, and ta da.
BUT the Republican lead in the house is so slim now, that about 20 Trump nuts have gone rogue- refusing to vote for McCarthy until McCarthy (who is a more normal Republican) agrees to some extreme right concessions. And so far no one is budging.
Apparently there is no protocol for what to do if a majority can't be reached. They just have to keep voting over and over. (This has happened before, though not since 1923. Once, in 1855 after the Whig Party collapsed, it took 2 months to finally reach a majority vote.)
There's basically 2 ways this goes:
1. the nut job trumpers who are holding things up right now can just keep demanding concessions from Mccarthy for their votes until he agrees, but so far all that's doing is apparently pissing off the more normal Republicans even more.
2. Some of the Democrats could go to McCarthy, ask for some concessions to the center, and break the stalemate by voting for him. (I don't really trust McCarthy with this, and there's a good chance that this would play badly with the Republican base. Unless they can really make Gaetz and Boebert look like the bad guys to their voters)
(It would be even funnier if the most moderate Republicans jumped ship and voted for the democrat just to spite the Trump nuts. But that's a 0% chance)

Lololol the votes going to fail again.
Ok, so, with 435 voting members, you need 218 for a majority. Republicans have 222 seats- that means if Democrats hold the line (which they have, throwing all 212 of their votes for Jeffries in every vote so far), only 4 Republicans can vote for not-McCarthy for him to win. And so far we are at like 12 votes for Jones.
It looks like McCarthy is LOSING votes.
And Jones (who the Trumpers are rallying behind) is VOTING FOR MCCARTHY, but he can't get the others to listen to him!?
And we are back folks- a 4th vote and McCarthy STILL LOST.
At this point, the Republicans seem *done.* Trump even came out and supported McCarthy. Jim Jones, the guy that the nut jobs had been voting for, is supporting McCarthy.
Literally no one even knows *what* these people want. They need to just be disruptive because they can?
Who knew- insurrectionists are actually really fucking bad at...functional government.
So all of this really underscores an interesting weakness in this need for a majority.
When you have a solid 2 party system, where everyone votes lock step with party, getting a majority is no problem.
If you have a multi-party system where parties regularly have to compromise and ally with each other, you can get to a majority almost always but it takes a little longer (which, I would argue is basically what the Democrats constantly do. They really are a coalition party.)
But the situation that we have now, where we are functionally a 2 party system but one party is splintering but no one can really ally with any other party without it being political suicide? We could get stuck here for a while.
This has happened before. The worst was in 1855- the Whig party had splintered and we effectively had 5 parties (though the 3 smallest mostly worked together) in Congress. After 133 votes over 2 months, they basically gave up and agreed to accept a plurality vote for Speaker.
If the Republicans can't get their ducks in a row, we could be stuck without a functioning House for a while. At this rate, I suspect they'll have to ditch McCarthy and pick someone else (though not whoever the Freedom caucus assholes choose) to claw up enough votes. The possibility of McCarthy cutting a deal with the nutters OR the Democrats doesn't seem likely at all now.
For some additional context: Part of the reason the MAGA crowd are refusing to budge toward McCarthy is that they see him as an RNC shill - which, tbh, he probably is. He's very tied in with the establishment. And so at this point, they've dug in their heels and there's very little chance of them budging even with concessions. Hell, the concessions McCarthy gave them before all this, up till the day of the first vote, probably helped convince them he's a weak willed patsy who will cave immediately (which he is).
However, the OTHER Republicans are now getting more and more pissed off about being held hostage by the MAGA crowd with basically no end goal (we're all very shocked that the MAGA block would do that, pls pause of gasps). So they're no longer willing to negotiate either. They've specifically turned down the suggestion to hold a Republican meeting over this, citing it would be negatively helpful (aka it would just lead to more fights and more stubbornness).
Dems, because of this, are actually closer to electing a Speaker. They are also getting rowdy. They have brought popcorn and alcohol (which is hilarious) and have started shouting during speeches when they disagree (even MORE hilarious, especially when it's round 6 going on round 7).
Honestly, crazy as it sounds, it's possible that one side or the other will cave and vote Dem, or that the Dems will get some concession that makes them willing to bend to McCarthy (but no way to the Freedom Caucus/MAGA bloc, not after everything).
This is such a goddamn funny start to the year.
The 6th vote just wrapped- same vote as before.
they need to stop this NFL season now i am not joking or being facetious they need to reevaluate how football is played fundamentally and it should have happened after Tua earlier this season
they are doing CPR on a player down on the field right now this sport should not be played by children. it shouldn’t be played by anyone as it is right now
The handwringing from the NFL head people after watching Damar Hamlin go down from cardiac arrest on the field during a live game was honest to God the perfect example of how traumatized Americans are and how companies are just like, business as usual. You saw the cruelty in action last night in real time and it just got worse and worse by the minute.
Officials expected the players to "shake it off" after watching Hamlin get worked on with CPR for about 10 minutes and then needing an AED to get stabilized enough to be carted OFF the field in an ambulance to the nearest trauma hospital.
The coaches and players were adamant about NOT continuing the game. You saw men sobbing and screaming and begging for the game to just stop because they could not continue to play after watching that. Officials really said take 5 and then continue play.
Players walked off the field. Coaches were like nah we're done. THAT IS A HUMAN. THAT IS A HUMAN LIFE. THIS IS DONE. GAME OVER.
At this point that I'm watching this all unfold he's just gotten to the hospital and now I'm watching NFL officials being torn to SHREDS by SOME of the public saying HELLO. STOP THIS. STOP IT. SOMEONE MIGHT HAVE FUCKING DIED.
But notice I said SOME. Because the other fucking half were screaming about MONEY and THIS IS A BIG GAME THAT CAN MAKE OR BREAK THE STANDINGS. It was talks about AD times and money being lost. It was talks about well the players know the risks and the game should continue in their honor right?
It was cartoonish evil in a way I started shaking at the rage of it all.
I watched in a span of 2 hours of a 24 year old having cardiac arrest on the field, I saw tweets going from
- he's too young and athletic for this to happen
- it's because he took a covid vaccine and ate snacks before a game
- that's just life and this is ruining the NFL game day experience to so many
- well my chain store stayed open after a shooting so why can't these men keep playing a game we paid to watch, they're just lil bitches for crying
- they should play! i would play! i would do ANYTHING if i was making X amount of dollars!
- well that's his fault i bet he'll stand for the flag NOW
it was sick.
America is broken in a way right now that is going to be talked about in ethic classes decades in the future.
Disgust doesn't begin to cover it. I cried in the shower.
All I could think was, this guy has a job where society says this person had "made it". And at the end of the day his job doesn't care about him either, just like so many of us in retail or being in the medical field or teachers etc. Our jobs do not care about us.
You get hurt, job continues. You're just a cog in a machine.
I watched a customer need medical attention from having a seizure and falling and busting her head open and I obviously went to call for help and get a manager, and then they pushed me back to my cash register and said don't worry about that, keep your light on and keep ringing up customers.
Customer was on the floor bleeding from the head and I was told to just keep ringing up people in the next lane. And to keep smiling and worry about my metrics for being a cashier. (speed, friendliness, commitment)
A shooting at a store in America, and you're told you can keep working an hour later because there's nothing you can do anyways and it's the store across the STREET so you're FINE.
But you know even if it was in your actual store you'd get the same fucking answer.
24 year old NFL player nearly died on the field. 5 minute break and the rest of you players can continue, it's an important game.
America is unhinged.
Never let them know your next move
his motivations are that hes out of touch with the rest of humanity and pursues some kind of incomprehensible idea of nobility and purity because hes an old money rich man special boy “genius” clinging to the idealized glory of his royal heritage, who wants to sacrifice everyone except a handful of rich “superior” people (aka his fanboys who buy their way into his special club) he thinks are worthy of inheriting a new better more beautiful world (created thru apocalypse and genocide). if this sounds familiar well it is because xy was In Theory good and ahead of its time but with the worst execution imaginable. the reason he does the thing in the screencap is because hes stupid and also wants really bad to torment a bunch of kids
I love that the pandemic actually definitively proved a lot of those "hard" questions for us. Masking up reduced cases of the flu to almost nonexistent numbers and we had zero flu deaths for a time. The welfare and social service and unemployment programs helped keep people living paycheck to paycheck out of poverty, and those stimulus checks some folks keep complaining about actually massively benefitted the common man and the economy. Individual personal travel was so extremely restricted on a global scale that we basically have concrete proof that individual restraint in terms of driving cars or travelling means absolutely nothing by comparison because the mass pollution is coming from the fisheries and the corporations with private jets and container ships. Working from home actually has massive benefits for a company like productivity boosts and better mental health of employees while also saving gas
and we're just. Willingly going back to how everything was before. We were shown how to do things better and the people in charge said "that's nice but we just want to get everything 'back to normal' :)"
